Director’s Message

     Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT) is a Govt. Institute functioning under the Office of Development Commissioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India. At present there are 10 IIHTs. Out of these, 06 IIHTs are functioning  under Central sector and 04 are under State sector. IIHT, Varanasi is the oldest among all Institutes and this was established during year 1956. This Institute is located at the heart of the varanasi city in the area of 8.014 acres which includes a 3 story ITOC building inaugurated recently by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. The campus has all amenities including Hostels for Boys & Girls separately. The Institute offers 3 years Diploma program in Handloom & Textile Technology and 1½ year Post Diploma Program in Textile Processing. From The academic year 2021-22, this Institute offers B.Tech in Handloom & Textile Technology a 4 year degree  program affiliated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul kalam Technical University (AKTU).

     The Diploma and Post Diploma alumni of this Institute are in key position in Handloom & Textiles Industries all over the world in Govt. and private organization as well as some of them have own entrepreneurship business in the field of  handlooms & Textiles.

     Of late there is a lot of demand for Indian Hand Made Products. Thus, there is a good scope for the revival of Handloom Industry in the post Covid era. Thus, there will be a great opportunity for the students passing out of this Institute to get good employment or to start their own entrepreneurship business to take India to the new heights.
